Okay but cringe culture never really died, it just evolved with the times.

Draw your character with a red nose/shoulders/joint in general? Tumblr art style, learn how to draw ‘normal looking people’. Want to have a red and black aesthetic? Gawd, you’re so edgy, I’m gonna cut myself on all the e d G e. Enjoy anything mildly popular after it’s first 6 months of existing? You’re a crazy sans undertale fangirl/boy/person. Use ‘XD’ or “owo’ or even just ‘lol’? Ancient fossil who needs to catch up with the times. Have a blog without a theme/tags/links? Do you even think, I need to know everything about you or you’re not a person. Reblog long/old/popular posts because you like them? How dare you clog up my dashboard and make me scroll for forever by using your blog the way you want to.

If you really wanna say ‘cringe culture should die’, then don’t go around participating in it and saying it isn’t just because it’s not Undertale or Minecraft or kids’ drawings on Deviantart. Can you dislike something? Of course you can. But YOU are responsible for your experience on the internet, don’t whine about someone else for enjoying their’s.

Am I the only one who thinks that hitting a kid and abuse are different things? Like, if I ever had a kid, I wouldn’t spank their ass raw or something like that. But a bop on the mouth or the ear pull or a smack upside the head? Yea. Those are behavior modifiers.

Except they’re not.

The studies done by the trained psychologists in this joke show that little kids don’t associate being hit with the thing they’ve done wrong. Very small children only understand consequences that are directly caused by the thing they did. Steal a biscuit, biscuit tastes good. Then for no reason mummy hit me. Very different to stole a biscuit, now no biscuit after dinner because I stole a biscuit.

And they also show that when a child is old enough to understand why they are being hit that non-physical punishment is equally as effective and less mentally harmful in the long run.

Do you know who benefits the most from hitting as a punishment? The parent. It gives a satisfaction rush. Parents do it because it makes them feel good.

Basically kids have two stages: too young to understand why they are being hit so physical punishment is useless for anything other than teaching a child that bigger stronger people can hit you whenever they like (Which sounds like the same lesson you would learn from abuse)

And the second stage is old enough to be reasoned with so many punishment options are available and you chose physical violence because it makes *you* feel better, which is an abusive action.

The only time a person should ever use violence against another human being, of any age, is to stop that person from being violent themselves.

Hitting a stranger is a crime. Hitting someone small who relies on you for food, love, and shelter should be as well. Don’t hit your fucking kid.

What Native people say about the use of sage: you can use sage, but you cannot smudge as nothing you are doing (waving sage around) is actually smudging. Smudging is a ceremony and you are, we promise, not smudging. Please buy sage from either us, or someone who sources the sage from us. White sage may not be considered endangered by the US government but corperate sourcing is making it difficult for us to source sage for our own religious purposes. Let alone to sell it.

What white people hear: never use sage ever, don’t ever buy it, don’t own it, don’t even look at it.

Look, y’all. There’s a couple of facets to my talk today.

1) Yes! You can buy sage! You really, truly can! Buy it from either native sellers (go to a powwow! Eat our food, buy our stuff, watch some dancing!) Or buy it from a seller who sources the sage from native people. Pick one. And no, buying it from 5 Below doesn’t count.

2) you CANNOT smudge. This isn’t just you “shouldn’t”— this is a YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF SMUDGING. Waving a sage stick around your doorways IS NOT SMUDGING. It is smoke clensing. Smudging, depending on the tradition and tribe, could easily have dancing and drums involved. You, as a white person, do not have the cultural BACKGROUND to even know how it works. At all. Period.

3) please, for FUCKS SAKE, stop making posts here on tumblr where you tell other white people about cultural appropriation and what they can and cannot do. Please stop, your license has been revoked because none of you bother to get the facts right. We native people are FULLY CAPABLE OF DOING IT OURSELVES. Consider instead: a) reblogging our posts where we talk about it! We’re here! We have made posts!! b) Making a post that states what we said and then LINKS BACK TO US. Screenshot with a link if you must. Stop centering your own voices in these conversations. You are already centered in everything, stop centering yourselves in a native space.

I’m tired of this nonsense, y’all.

Thanks for coming to my TedTalk ™

olaf is the prime example of a genuinely bad character who did a few good deeds in his life and doesnt get redeemed because of it. the baudelaires did not mourn for him. they buried him because to them, they felt thats what they should do. they still hated him. count olafs ending is not an excuse to crown him your “uwu precious angel who was misunderstood.” he is a bad person who had a few good moments. dont romanticize his abuse of the baudelaires just because he carried kit to the island.

I think they buried him because watching a corpse decompose is traumatizing and unhygienic. Plus it would not smell good at all.

Burying him was more their gift to themselves than any commentary on his worth as a character.

i’m watching an AIDS documentary right now, and i can’t believe ronald reagan spread the completely false idea that HIV/AIDS can be spread through basic skin contact, toilet seats, spit etc…. and it’s not at all true that doctors “weren’t completely sure” if you were 100% safe from HIV by doing those things back then, because many doctors came out and spoke about how wrong he was almost immediately after he had started spreading this.

there’s no doubt in my mind reagan knew that HIV/AIDS could not be spread these ways, but purposefully decided to fear monger the public anyways. and this had a huge impact on how the public thought of/interacted with people who had HIV/AIDS, which was already horrible to begin with.

people started wearing rubber gloves around HIV-positive people because they were scared to simply touch a person who had HIV. parents started to take their kids out of school if they found out their child went to school with a student who had HIV, because they didn’t want to have their child in the same classroom as said student. some parents went as far as bullying HIV positive students and threatening them if they went around their kid/didn’t leave the school.

it just makes me so, so sad. my heart is always heavy when i think about how people with HIV/AIDS were treated, but it’s particularly heavy today for some reason. these people were dehumanized and treated like animals, and reagan directly contributed to this.

just adding to make this rebloggable for anyone who’s curious and wants to watch it.

Also, people didn’t just act like this around people they knew to be hiv+ they avoided contact and denied service to anyone they thought was gay

Why are people having so much issue with the article, I agreed with it? The title isn’t the most eloquent thing ever but the article wasn’t encouraging cheating, where you go behind your partners back, but instead looking at the issue of cheating as a not black-and-white thing where there’s one horribly evil person who just wanted to have fun/get laid with one traumatized-for-life victim. Instead, like most- nah, let me say with ANYTHING in real life beyond fiction, the article sees the grays in cheating and why the person cheated in the first place. Not to say that cheating isn’t a horrible thing to do, but I feel like people need to understand that there are reasons people do the things they do. People who cheat are human beings. They could feel horrible about it, they could be trapped in a marriage or relationship that they don’t feel they can escape, they can feel insecure and unloved. Again, not to say it’s something you should ever do, but dehumanizing someone over a mistake is just as bad in my opinion. There’s nowhere where they can talk about their experiences, and it’s likely we know a lot of people who have cheated in our lives even if they haven’t (or were too scared) to tell us about it.
